Continuous Mining Machine Operator

Operate self-propelled mining machines that rip coal, metal and nonmetal ores, rock, stone, or sand from the mine face and load it onto conveyors, shuttle cars, or trucks in a continuous operation.

In the next 5-10 years, AI will increasingly enable continuous mining machines to operate autonomously or be controlled remotely, significantly reducing the need for direct human presence at the cutting face. Operators' roles will likely evolve to focus on supervising fleets of AI-driven machines, performing diagnostics, and managing system performance from a control center. This shift will demand advanced technical skills and potentially alter the overall workforce size for these positions.
