Crematory Operator

Operate crematory equipment to reduce human or animal remains to bone fragments in accordance with state and local regulations. Duties may include preparing the body for cremation and performing general maintenance on crematory equipment. May use traditional flame-based cremation, calcination, or alkaline hydrolysis.

In the next 5-10 years, AI will likely streamline administrative tasks and optimize crematory furnace operations, enhancing efficiency and fuel usage. While the respectful handling of human remains will remain a core human responsibility, operators may increasingly leverage AI for scheduling, equipment monitoring, and predictive maintenance, shifting some skill requirements. This would likely make the role more focused on oversight and compassionate care, rather than leading to full displacement.
