Impact of AI on this Job

AI-powered speech-to-text and natural language processing will significantly automate the core function of medical transcription, leading to a substantial decrease in demand for traditional transcriptionists. Their role will likely evolve towards editing, quality assurance, and validating AI-generated reports, requiring strong medical knowledge and a focus on accuracy over pure typing speed. This shift necessitates upskilling to manage and refine AI outputs, transforming the career into a more analytical and oversight-driven position.
