AI is unlikely to fully replace phlebotomists due to the critical need for human touch, empathy, and judgment. However, AI could assist in vein mapping, automate certain lab processes, and improve diagnostic accuracy, potentially making the role more efficient and focused on complex cases or patient interaction. Robotic venipuncture systems might handle routine draws, but human oversight and interaction for patient comfort and handling complications will remain essential.
