Tank Car, Truck, and Ship Loaders

Load and unload chemicals and bulk solids, such as coal, sand, and grain, into or from tank cars, trucks, or ships, using material moving equipment. May perform a variety of other tasks relating to shipment of products. May gauge or sample shipping tanks and test them for leaks.

AI and automation will likely increase efficiency in this career through predictive maintenance of equipment, optimized loading sequences, and automated inspection systems for leaks or material quality. While some manual tasks might be automated by robotics, human oversight and intervention for complex or sensitive materials will remain crucial. The role may shift towards monitoring automated systems and managing exceptions rather than solely performing manual loading.
