A program that focuses on the process and techniques of original composition in various literary forms such as the short story, poetry, the novel, and others. Includes instruction in technical and editorial skills, criticism, and the marketing of finished manuscripts.
Your week kicks off with Literary Theory, dissecting the structuralist approach to a Raymond Carver short story. Later, in Poetry Workshop, you present your haiku sequence for peer critique, receiving constructive feedback on imagery. You make a mental note to revise the third poem's ending. After class, you grab coffee with a classmate, brainstorming ideas for the collaborative anthology project in your Editing and Publishing course. Your evening is spent reading assigned chapters from a contemporary memoir for your Creative Nonfiction class, highlighting key narrative techniques.
