Surgical Assistant

Assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons. May, in accordance with state laws, help surgeons to make incisions and close surgical sites, manipulate or remove tissues, implant surgical devices or drains, suction the surgical site, place catheters, clamp or cauterize vessels or tissue, and apply dressings to surgical site.

AI is expected to enhance this career by providing more precise surgical planning, real-time data analysis during procedures, and potentially guiding robotic tools for repetitive tasks. However, human dexterity, critical judgment, and direct patient interaction will remain indispensable, shifting the role towards overseeing AI-assisted systems and focusing on complex, non-automatable aspects of surgery.
